first_imgWijnaldum urges Liverpool not to dwell on Man City setbackby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum says they shouldn’t dwell on defeat at Manchester City on Thursday night. The result sees City cut Liverpool’s lead to four points.Wijnaldum said, “I think it was a good game. We didn’t start well. City were the better team first half but we still created chances and were unlucky. Second half we played better and created more chances and scored. We were unlucky with other chances not going in. One moment we didn’t defend well and they scored.”We are two teams trying to force the other team to make a mistake. Both teams lost the ball. It was a game in which everything could happen. In the end we lost and are disappointed. But we also need to keep our confidence.”I don’t want to say it is a hammer blow. You are always disappointed to lose a game, especially when you come back and create chances. We will be happy if we had a draw. There is no team in the Premier League that will be happy with a loss.”We are still four points clear.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

first_imgAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say Liverpool boss Klopp: Defeat won’t knock these players off their strideby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists defeat at Manchester City won’t knock them off their stride.Last night’s result sees their lead at the top of the table cut to four points. But Klopp says, “I have so much faith in my players you can’t imagine. If somebody would have told me after both games against Manchester City we are four points up, I would’ve paid money for it like you wouldn’t believe. “For us it is really important we take it game by game because there is no other chance. If we would have won the title five times in the last 10 years then we go 100 per cent, but we don’t have the experience in that. Why should we behave like somebody who won it all the time? It’s true that we didn’t win it for a long time, the club didn’t and we never won it as a team, that’s how it is. “We want to finish the season as good as possible and that’s our right, we can do that. We are still in a pretty good position so it’s all fine for us. Not in the moment, it feels really bad, but it’s only the moment. Tomorrow morning we wake up, it feels still average and then we have the opportunity to work on it and prepare for the next game and that’s what we will 100 per cent do. That’s all.” last_img read more

first_imgBournemouth striker Josh King: Time to find consistencyby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveBournemouth striker Josh King says they need to find consistency.King has featured in all four games as the Cherries have taken four points from their first four games – a tally matched in their first two seasons in the top flight. The 27-year-old frontman netted from the spot to pave the way for the 2-1 win at Aston Villa and was also involved in the 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on the opening day.Asked for his opinion on their start, King told afcb.co.uk: “It’s been a very mixed bag. I thought we let ourselves down against Sheffield United. We should have beaten them but didn’t perform at our highest level.“We played a high-performance and energetic game against Aston Villa and won.“I thought we put in a good performance against Manchester City and them and Liverpool are the two best teams in the league.“I didn’t think anyone played well against Leicester and we all knew it. It’s in the back of everyone’s mind that it was a bad performance and we want to make it right against Everton.“They have made a few new signings and have a good team. Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi are two good acquisitions and Richarlison is playing well and scoring goals.“Every time we play Everton, it’s a good game to watch. We’re both attacking and both box to box which is probably why they have put it on television on Sunday.“We haven’t performed how we should have in the first four games and maybe the international break came at a good time because we can regroup and focus on Sunday because we need three points.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Huddersfield sign Puncheon on loan

first_imgHuddersfield Town have completed the signing of Crystal Palace midfielder Jason Puncheon on loan until the end of the season. The 32-year-old has made just five appearances for Palace in the Premier League this term – all as a late substitute – and will look to kick-start his career in West Yorkshire.Terriers boss David Wagner will hope Puncheon can provide the creativity sorely lacking in a Huddersfield team that has scored only 13 goals and mustered just 10 points this season to leave them bottom and in serious danger of a return to the Championship. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘There is no creativity’ – Can Solskjaer get Man Utd scoring freely again? ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Wagner told the club’s official website: “I’m very happy that we are able to welcome Jason to Huddersfield Town.Welcome to #htafc, Jason Puncheon!(SE) pic.twitter.com/PBuRxNU065— Huddersfield Town (@htafcdotcom) January 4, 2019″It is clear that we want to add quality and options to our midfield areas in this January transfer window and I’m sure many of our supporters know about Jason from his years playing in the Premier League.”It is important that our additions in January have the ability to arrive and make an immediate impact in our team, which I’m sure Jason can. He has played in this division for nearly a decade now and knows what it takes to be successful.”As well as being a very good player, he is a great character. He has been the captain of Crystal Palace and is a real leader in the dressing room, which is something we wanted to add too.”He’s now totally fit after the knee injury that he suffered last season and he’s been very keen to come here and show that he is still capable of performing at the top level, which is great news for us. I’m really excited about working with him to help him understand our way of play.” Check out Goal’s Premier League 2019-20 fantasy football podcast for game tips, debate and rivalries.last_img read more

Steve Spurrier Asked About Urban Meyer, Ohio State

first_imgUrban Meyer talking to Chris Leak during a Florida Gators football game.GAINESVILLE, FL – SEPTEMBER 10: Head coach Urban Meyer of the University of Florida Gators talks with quarterback Chris Leak #12 on the sideline while taking on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on September 10, 2005 in Gainesville, Florida. Florida defeated Louisiana Tech 41-3. (Photo by Doug Benc/Getty Images)Steve Spurrier turned his alma mater Florida into a college football powerhouse in the 1990s. Urban Meyer picked things up and ran with it, capturing two national championships with the Gators in 2006 and 08.After a successful stint at South Carolina, Spurrier retired, and is back in a role at Florida, which is now coached by Meyer’s former Gators offensive coordinator Dan Mullen. He may have coached against Meyer in the SEC East, but Spurrier is friends with the Ohio State head coach.Orlando Sentinel columnist Mike Bianchi reached out to the legendary coach to ask about the ongoing situation with Meyer and the Buckeyes. Meyer was placed on administrative leave, as Ohio State investigates what he knew about the 2015 allegations against Zach Smith.Meyer did not move to fire Smith until this year, after it was revealed that his ex-wife Courtney Smith had accused him of domestic violence in October 2015. He admits that he was aware of a domestic incident in 2009 when he and Smith coached at Florida, that occurred when the young couple was pregnant, and said that he and his wife Shelley moved to help the Smiths get counseling.Steve Spurrier is waiting to hear more, as the rest of us are, but expressed his hope that Urban Meyer didn’t know about the Zach Smith allegations ahead of time. From Bianchi’s report:Said Spurrier: “I consider Urban a good friend, I really do. Here’s what I’m hoping and praying happened is that his wife, Shelley, did not tell him about the latest incident in 2015. I guess we’ll wait and see … whether she told him about it. It’s unfortunate that the guy (Zach Smith) was allowed to be on the staff for that long a period of time. Hopefully, it’ll be proven that Urban did not know anything about it, and as soon as he found out about it, he dismissed the guy.”He also mentioned that when he coached, he had a strict “zero tolerance policy” for domestic violence. He believes that should be the standard across college football.“I don’t know if I was the first, but I know I was one coach who told the players up front: ‘If you ever hit a girl or get any sort of domestic violence charge or sexual charge then you’re finished.’ ” Spurrier said. “That was one rule I had that there was no negotiating on. I’ve seen other coaches who would keep players and try to rehab them … but I think it (zero tolerance on domestic violence) should be a rule in all of college football.”In 2014, during the aftermath of the situations with Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, and other football stars, Meyer was asked about using those stories as lessons for his players. At that time, he answered affirmatively when asked if Ohio State had a zero tolerance policy for domestic violence.[Orlando Sentinel]last_img read more

Baker Mayfield’s Heisman House Commercial Will Upset Ohio State Fans

first_imgBaker Mayfield plants a flag in a sandwich for the Heisman House.Last September, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield, after leading the Sooners to a huge road win against Ohio State, pulled an incredibly disrespectful move, planting his team’s flag midfield in Ohio Stadium. It’s a move that Mayfield apologized for after – but in reality, Sooners fans will forever appreciate. This week, it looks like Nissan will be paying homage to it.Mayfield wound up winning the Heisman Trophy last year, leading his Sooners to the College Football Playoff, where they were narrowly ousted by Georgia. As a result, he’s now part of Nissan’s “Heisman House” campaign. His first commercial should debut this week.In that commercial, former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is making a sandwich. Mayfield comes by, plants an Oklahoma flag in it and claims it.It’s a clever little bit, and it’s one that will simultaneously upset Ohio State fans and excite Oklahoma supporters.Nissan has yet to show it on television, but they posted it on YouTube. You can check it out below:Mayfield, after a stellar senior season at Oklahoma, was drafted No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns this past April.
