Carolina Hurricanes’ Andrei Svechnikov scores second lacrosse goal of the season

first_imgWith the game tied 2-2 midway through the second period, Svechnikov gathered the puck along the boards and headed behind the Winnipeg net. Once situated directly behind Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck, the 19-year-old Svechnikov scooped the puck onto his stick and deftly placed it over Hellebuyck’s right shoulder. It was a near carbon copy of the goal Svechnikov scored against the Calgary Flames earlier in the season, and on Tuesday it served as a rallying point for his team as the Hurricanes scored four straight goals to eventually win 6-3 — with the teenager’s jaw-dropping marker the catalyst. The previous instance of such a goal being scored? Oct. 29, by Svechnikov. The 2010s: Crosby named athlete of the decade | NHL all-decade teamWith Carolina visiting the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, a back-and-forth contest needed a bit of a spark to give one of the teams enough of an advantage to take control of the game.Enter Svechnikov. It happened again. On Tuesday night, Andrei Svechnikov did what had been done only one other time in the history of the NHL when he scored a “lacrosse-style” goal from behind the net for the Carolina Hurricanes. last_img read more
