Timmer Repeats As MVC Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of Year; Four Bulldogs Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams

first_imgHe has seven 20-point games this season with four of them coming in conference play, which included a season-high 28 points on 8-of-12 shooting and 4-of-7 from the arc in a win over Evansville. Just a junior, Timmer already ranks in the top 10 in career scoring at Drake and is second among active Valley players in career scoring. A two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, he has twice been named MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week this season and seven times in his career. Timmer is the fourth MVC student-athlete to have earned Scholar-Athlete of the Year plaudits twice, joining Kent Williams of Southern Illinois (2002, 2003); Neil Plank of Illinois State (2005, 2006) and Colt Ryan of Evansville (2012, 2013). Woodward was joined on the second team by sophomore Nick McGlynn (Stoughton, Wis.). McGlynn, who has a 3.57 GPA as a digital media production major, has started 19 games this season and all but one MVC game. He is averaging 5.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the team’s win at Missouri State and scored a career-high 12 points in the win over Loyola. Junior Graham Woodward (Edina, Minn.) was named to the Scholar-Athlete second team thanks to his 3.34 GPA as a marketing major. On the court, Woodward averaged 8.5 points per game in MVC competition with 2.0 assists per game. Woodward closed the regular season on an extremely strong note, averaging 15.5 points per game while shooting 15-of-24 from the three-point arc in the final four games of the regular season to earn the second Scholar-Athlete honor of his career. C.J. Rivers (Cahokia, Ill.) added to the Bulldogs’ representation on the Scholar-Athlete teams by earning honorable mention accolades. Rivers is averaging 3.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in 17.4 minutes per game of action. The journalism major with a 3.32 GPA has had three double-figure games this season including narrowly missing a career high with 12 points in games against Fresno State and DePaul. In the win over Indiana State, he had a career-high nine assists in just 17 minutes with seven points and five rebounds. Earlier in the season, he early had a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds against South Dakota State. Drake four’s MVC Scholar-Athlete Team members will be in action Thursday, March 2, evening as they begin play in the MVC Tournament. LOUIS, Mo. – A league-high four Drake Bulldogs earned a spot on the Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete teams and junior Reed Timmer (New Berlin, Wis.) was named the Enterprise Bank & Trust MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced Thursday, March 2. Timmer, who sports a 3.48 cumulative grade point average while majoring in pharmacy, is fourth in the MVC in scoring a 15.4 points per game, third in free-throw percentage, and 11th in three-pointers per game. Timmer has scored in double figures in 26 of the Bulldogs’ 30 games and has led Drake in scoring in 16 of those contests. Timmer also earned a spot on the MVC’s Scholar-Athlete First Team as one of four Bulldogs to earn Scholar-Athlete honors.
