City of Alpena Fire Department warns of charity scam

first_imgAddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThisALPENA, Mich. — The City of Alpena wants to warn residents of a charity scam going around the area.Alpena’s fire department has become aware of phone and mail communications soliciting support for the Firefighters Charitable Foundation out of Farmingdale, New York. The communications state that money collected will be used to support victims of fires and volunteer fire departments. The organization claims to have a P.O. Box in Madison Heights, which is in the metro Detroit area, but there is no evidence that it provides support to anyone in Michigan, or locally. If you would like more information on this topic, or on how to support your local fire departments, contact City of Alpena fire chief, Bill Forbush, at (989)354–1850.AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThis Tags: Alpena City Firefighters, charity scam, Fire Department, Firefighters, ScamContinue ReadingPrevious A closer look at Alpena Public Schools ahead of Tuesday’s bond proposalNext APS superintendent offers tours of Besser and Wilson Elementary Schools ahead of bond electionlast_img read more

An unusual Mother’s Day celebration

first_imgAddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThisALPENA, Mich -Today is the one day that you want to shower mom with not only gifts but hugs and kisses. but due to COVID–19 restrictions, this was not possible for those with aging parents in facilities.   Two sisters had a unique Mother’s Day with their mom.Waving through a glass window two sisters had to blow kisses and mouth words to their mom while holding a sign that read, “We love you.”Boots Worniak,  who has been at Medilodge of Alpena for approximately one year, kept waving for her daughters to come in.As hard as it was, Jane Fortner and her sister, Susan Decker, had to explain as best they could that they were unable to do so.Jane had a series of emotions at today’s visit but she’s thankful to the facility for accommodating them as best as they were able. She reflected back on this past January when they were able to celebrate their mom’s 100th birthday and how so much has changed since that time.Jane is thankful to Medilodge for arranging Skpe, Facetime, and sending pics during the COVID–19 pandemic but she is already planning her visit after restrictions are lifted. We spoke with Life Enrichment Director, Kathy Klimek, about the unusual Mother’s Day at Medilodge and she said giving out carnations and pie to all of the mothers today seemed to make them happy.  She also added that patients are being tested and thankfully tests are coming back negative.AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThisContinue ReadingPrevious Wishing moms everywhere a happy Mother’s DayNext Daily COVID-19 update May 11, 2020last_img read more
