AAF players ‘authorized’ to sign with NFL teams, suspended league announces

first_imgWith the AAF players allowed to sign with NFL teams, it appears as if it is only  a matter of time before the suspended league folds.Tuesday’s decision to suspend operations shocked AAF players and coaches alike, especially since there were just two weeks left in the season. Some of the teams decided to throw in the towel altogether and send coaches and players home (albeit reportedly without paying their way after opting not to keep housing them in hotels during the “indefinite” suspension). Now that AAF players and NFL personnel can be in contact, there might be some NFL teams willing to take a flyer on the best out of the AAF, at least in the form of meetings or workouts.Despite players being allowed to explore NFL options, some players are reporting that with the suspension of league operations, players are on the hook for paying for their current lodgings, amongst other charges that the league normally would take on. Adrien Robinson, a former Giants tight end who played for the Memphis Express, detailed how he now has a $2,500 charge for [email protected] I woke up to over a $2500 charge pending on my account from the Sonesta hotel our team stayed in. I called the bank and Memphis team president. My only option is to dispute the charges on Monday. The same thing happened to other players on our team @ohrnberger— Adrien Robinson (@ItsARob8One) April 4, 2019Memphis fullback Anthony Manzo-Lewis also posted to Twitter that the team had their personal items waiting in the lobby of their hotel after the league suspended operations and that he had no place to stay. The AAF was created with the hope of being a farm system to the NFL. AAF officials were trying to clear the way with the NFL Players Association to be able to borrow third- and fourth-string players from NFL rosters to give them playing time and experience, but there reportedly was pushback from the NFLPA about allowing that to happen. FanDuel names Orlando Apollos AAF champions, will pay futures bets AAF co-founder Bill Polian blasts Tom Dundon for shutting down operationscenter_img With the writing on the wall, the Alliance of American Football is allowing its players to sign with NFL teams, the upstart league announced Thursday. This counters previous reports that the AAF wasn’t allowing its players to talk to NFL teams at all by sending a memo to the NFL telling the organization not to contact AAF members. Some argue that the AAF players already were free to sign with NFL teams because when the AAF suspended operations it did so in breach of its contracts with the players, rendering them free agents immediately. Legal arguments aside, NFL teams now will be allowed to sift through names on the eight AAF rosters and determine if they want to contact players for potential meetings and workouts. While the AAF has suspended operations, it hasn’t officially folded or canceled its season, which is why the memo reportedly was sent out. TRAGIC FATHER TELLS OF HEARTACHE AT RELIVING CRASH NIGHTMARE

first_imgThe scene of last week’s crash in which Darry McDaid was seriously injured.A loving father has been forced to relive his worst nightmare through the eyes of his tragic son after both were involved in horrific car crashes.Martin McGrath spent fourteen weeks in hospital after receiving a serious head injury following a car crash back in 1978.He fought tooth and nail to lead a normal life after being almost killed in the crash. Darry: Huge outpouring of support for his familyNow he has told of his heartache after his son suffered a similar brain damaging injury after he was involved in a car crash in Letterkenny last week.Darry McDaid, 23, from Cavanacaw, St Johnston, is in intensive care at Letterkenny General Hospital after his BMW car crossed over four lanes and crashed into a wall.Gardai are still investigating the cause of the crash which happened just before 1am on Thursday morning last on the Letterkenny to Derry Road at Drumnahoagh.Darry’s distraught dad Martin has told how he has been left devastated after having to watch his son go through all he went through almost four decades ago. “I always worried and dreaded something like this would happen and now it has.“I don’t remember much about my accident but I’m told a cow came out of a field and hit our car. I was a back-seat passenger and I spent fourteen weeks in hospital.“I never thought anything like this would happen to my family. To be honest I think that Darry’s injuries are worse than mine. It’s heartbreaking watching him lying there in hospital.“He has severe brain damage but they are doing tremendous work in Letterkenny General Hospital to help him come back,” said Martin.Martin described his son as “a very decent and shy young man.” Darry was only back from England for a few days holidays from England where he is a manager in a bakery.“He had a date that night and none of us even knew about it. He is very shy but a decent young man.“We are just asking everyone to keep him in their prayers and hope that he will pull through this,” said his devastated dad. Both the Gardai and Darry’s family have appealed for anyone who was in the area of the crash on the evening in question to come forward. “We are asking anybody who may have even noticed the smallest thing in the area to come forward and let us or the Gardai know.“Nobody knows how Darry ended up crashing into that wall that night. But we need to find out.“It may help Gardai to get to the bottom of this.“In the meantime all we can do is to pray that he finds the strength to pull through,” added Martin.TRAGIC FATHER TELLS OF HEARTACHE AT RELIVING CRASH NIGHTMARE was last modified: March 25th, 2014 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:crashDarry McDaiddonegalGardaiLETETRKENNYMartin McGrathlast_img read more
