Malis jailed coup leader gives version of events

Amadou Haya Sanogo said the arresting officers were “waiting for my bodyguards to flinch just a little so that they could open fire on all of us.”Sanogo, then a captain, led the March 2012 coup, upending the country’s twenty-year history of democracy. Though he was forced to step down by the international community, he continued to meddle in state affairs.
