Prices soar for Kingscliff trophy homes

first_img51 Cylinders Drive, KingscliffKINGSCLIFF trophy homeowners are selling their sprawling sanctuaries for big price tags as beachfront land supply tightens.A luxury property at Cylinders Drive has just been listed for an area record $3.195 million and agents say they are fielding dozens of calls each day for other houses in the suburb. Polished concrete floors offer low maintenance.“At one stage we were working on a shipwreck theme, and we knew the timber would weather well over time which it did really nicely. Very few parts are actually painted and we wanted low maintenance as well, hence the polished concrete floors.”Set over two levels under soaring plywood ceilings, the four-bedroom, four-bathroom property features a home cinema, stone and marble finishes and a hidden study. The 9 x 5m pool is the centrepiece of the entertaining area, which also boasts a six-person spa bath with direct viewing to an outdoor plasma TV, as well as speakers in the garden and opening roof and integrated barbecue and bar fridge. A four-metre marble island bench features in the kitchen. The outdoor spa with plasma TV.“We wanted something that maximised the outdoor living space and my wife and kids wanted a large pool. We wanted that to be centrally located within the house and be able to live outside the house as much as we live inside the house,” Mr Latham said. The Lathams are selling up so they can build again.“We’ll definitely stay in the area, really it’s an opportunity for us to potentially realise a good gain,” Mr Latham said. The pool is the centrepiece of the outdoor entertaining area.center_img The Cylinders Drive property is on a tightly-held beachfront block.“There’s a few good quality beachfront houses on the market in the area so people will more likely make the trip from Sydney to look at a few rather than just one.”Already Mr Witheriff has fielded 25 inquiries in 24 hours.“We are getting interest from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and a couple from Byron Bay,” Mr Witheriff said. Futuristic and sophisticated. The property is a statement family home. The Cylinders Drive property, owned by Gold Coast lawyer Steve Latham, features double-level glass panels allowing the interior living spaces to overlook the azure rectangle of the pool and everything from the airconditioning to the spa can be controlled with the touch of an iPhone. “We have not seen a house like this built or come to market since Salt Village was developed by the Ray Group almost 15 years ago,” said marketing agent Nick Witheriff, referring to the billion-dollar residential and resort project launched by the late Brian Ray. Kingscliff has boomed since. In the past five years the median house price has lifted 48 per cent to $836,888, according to CoreLogic’s February Market Trends report. “The price (of the Cylinders Drive property) will be setting a benchmark, but with the price of land increasing as is construction, it’s well-justified on that basis,” Mr Witheriff said. “We have no new land supply coming to the market.”Already Mr Witheriff has fielded 25 inquiries in 24 hours. “We are getting interest from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and a couple from Byron Bay,” Mr Witheriff said. Marriage is best for raising children, Government says

first_imgTelegraph (UK) 13 March 2012Iain Duncan Smith will make the Coalition’s most explicit official statement   in favour of parents marrying and staying together. He will say that children from such homes are most likely to end up with a   good education and a job…Marriage is particularly good for children, the paper says. The Government is   “concerned” by the long-term trend away from marriage, it says. Mr Duncan Smith will say the strategy marks a change in the approach to   marriage. Successive governments have done too little to promote stable   families, he will say….The command paper quotes evidence showing that “children tend to enjoy better   life outcomes when the same two parents give them support and protection”. Children who have experienced the breakdown of their parents’ relationship are   “more likely to have poor cognitive development and education and employment   outcomes than those who have lived with both birth parents”. “Outcomes” are better for children when parents stay together, the paper says.   Research shows that about one in three cohabiting couples splits up before a   child’s fifth birthday, compared with one in 10 married couples. “This Government believes marriage often provides an excellent environment in   which to bring up children,” it says. “The Government is clear that marriage   should be supported.” Mr Duncan Smith said he was not “lecturing” parents on how to live, merely   setting out the facts on the advantages of marriage and commitment.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/9139483/Marriage-is-best-for-raising-children-Government-says.htmllast_img read more
