Clippers coach Doc Rivers has no problem with NBA fine

first_imgCLEVELAND >> Doc Rivers didn’t look like someone who was $15,000 poorer when he met with the media before Thursday’s game with the Cavaliers, and he wasn’t someone who was leaving town with a used Chevrolet Malibu.Rivers’ money was headed to the NBA after his on-court explosion Tuesday, and on his way to the locker room that night, he knew it was likely gone.“Obviously, I should have gotten fined, just from the actions afterwards,” Rivers said. “I had no problem with that at all. I’m good with it. I never read why they fined me. I’m completely in the dark. I just knew I got fined. They called me and said 15 (thousand) and before they said anything else, I said, ‘Hey, thank you, no problem.’”The NBA announced Rivers had been fined for verbal abuse of an official and for failure to leave the court in a timely manner. In addition to being the proud owner of a brand new tax deduction (charitable donation?), Rivers grabbed some internet fame thanks to some outrageous photos capturing Rivers mid meltdown. The Clippers’ coach even shared one of the memes — one depicting Rivers as Santa Claus and DeAndre Jordan, who was restraining his coach, as an elf — on his Instagram account.“The memes are great. I think they’re hilarious,” Rivers said at shootaround. “I think they caught me in a very bad moment. I actually thought I was happy for 90 percent of the game, and they catch the one bad moment.”And, the moment looked even worse than Rivers thought it would.“It’s funny. I knew something was going on because I kept getting calls from my friends in, like, Boston,” he said. “(They were) like, ‘Are you OK?’ I’m like, ‘What the hell? Was I that overboard?’ “Then I saw it and I was like, ‘Yeah, I was pretty nuts.’”Happy for LueThere was the day Rivers won a championship. And, there was the day Tyronn Lue won a title with the Cleveland Cavaliers.“For me, it was the first time I was literally emotional when someone else was winning,” Rivers said Thursday morning. “Other than me winning, it’s the best single day I’ve ever had. It was that emotional for me. He’s like my son, so it was awesome for me.”Lue played for Rivers in Orlando and coached with him in Boston and Los Angeles.“I’ve never been around a guy that smart that remembered every play,” Rivers said. “…He just has an ability to communicate and not offend and I think that is a gift. I don’t think everyone has that. When you put smarts and communication together, it usually translates into something special.”Blake’s Space JamThursday morning, Blake Griffin got to live out a childhood fantasy, kind of, by starring in a Space Jam-themed Jordan Brand commercial.Cracking jokes alongside an animated Bugs Bunny, Griffin was able to star in a commercial reboot of a film he’s seen more than 30 times, he said.Griffin previously participated in a live reading of the Space Jam script in Los Angeles.“It’s pretty cool,” Griffin said.center_img Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Errorlast_img read more
