Windies at the double – Women, men in T20 World Cup finals

first_img BRUTE STRENGTH MUMBAI, India (CMC): West Indies crushed the hopes of a billion Indians when they produced a magnificent run chase to stun the home side by seven wickets and clinch a place in Sunday’s final of the Twenty20 World Cup. Entering yesterday’s semi-final as the underdogs against tournament favourites India, the Caribbean side silenced the full house at the Wankhede Stadium by overhauling an imposing target of 193 with two balls to spare in a riveting encounter. They were propelled by half-centuries from Lendl Simmons, who carved out an exhilarating, career-best unbeaten 82, and opener Johnson Charles, who belted an aggressive 52, while Andre Russell weighed in with a whirlwind unbeaten 43. Stumbling at 19 for two in the third over after losing key players Chris Gayle (5) and Marlon Samuels (8), West Indies recovered through the trio’s efforts to reach 84 for two at the halfway stage before plundering 112 runs off the last 58 balls of the innings. Requiring eight runs from the final over bowled by part-time medium pacer Virat Kohli, West Indies managed just a run from the first two deliveries, but Russell tugged the third ball to the midwicket boundary before clearing the ropes at wide long-on, to spark celebrations among the visitors. Simmons, who only arrived here from the Caribbean earlier this week to replace the injured Andre Fletcher, faced 51 deliveries and struck seven fours and five sixes. Living a charmed life, he survived three chances to anchor two key partnerships, putting on 97 for the third wicket with Charles before adding a further 80 in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand with Russell. Charles played a blinder, cracking seven fours and two sixes off 36 deliveries, while Russell flaunted his brute strength in belting three fours and four sixes off a mere 20 balls. With the win, West Indies set up a meeting in the final in Kolkata against England, who they beat in their opening game of the preliminaries. Earlier, the in-form Kohli top-scored with an unbeaten 89 as India raced to 192 for two off their 20 overs, after they were sent in. Openers Rohit Sharma (43) and Ajinkya Rahane (40) put on 62 for the first wicket before Kohli arrived to marshal the latter half of the innings. He crunched 11 fours and a six off 47 balls and added 56 for the second wicket with Rahane before dominating an unbroken third-wicket stand of 64 with captain M.S. Dhoni, who was unbeaten on 15. India scored freely in the opening overs with Sharma smashing three fours and three sixes off 31 balls, and Rahane giving support with a 35-ball knock that included two fours. With the Windies in need of a jump-start, Simmons and Charles reignited the innings with superb batting to keep their side in touch with the required run rate. Charles took a couple of boundaries from Bumrah’s next over and then got stuck into off-spinner Ravi Ashwin, taking 13 runs from his second over – the ninth of the innings. He reached his third T20I half-century off 30 balls with a boundary to long-off off medium pacer Hardik Pandya, but departed soon after in the 14th over when he swatted at the first ball of Kohli’s first over and holed out to Rohit running in from long off.last_img read more

Ovella drafted in as U20 depart for Rwanda

first_img0Shares0000Harambee Stars players celebrate Ovella Ochieng’s first half goal against Zanzibar during the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup final on December 17, 2017. PHOTO/Timothy OlobuluNAIROBI, KENYA, Apr 19- Kariobangi Sharks forward Ovellah Ochieng, Mathare United’s John ‘Mavado’ Mwangi and Nzoia Sugar’s Patrick Otieno have been drafted into the Kenya squad that departs for Kigali on Thursday afternoon for their 2019 African Cup of Nations Under-20 qualifier return leg against hosts Rwanda on Saturday.Head coach Stanley Okumbi has moved in to doctor a forward line that proved ill in the first leg missing chance after chance as they aim winning in Kigali to advance to second round tie against Zambia scheduled for May. “For me, this is not mission impossible. We have a very genuine chance of progressing to the next round and we have worked to improve the finishing which was a problem in the first leg. The players we have brought in have that experience to help us,” Okumbi told Capital Sport before the team departed.Harambee Stars head coach Stanley Okumbi feeds instructions to skipper Alpha Onyango during their African Under-20 Cup of Nations qualifer against Rwanda at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on April 1, 2018. Our best players didn’t rise to the occasion. If we add at least 20 percent to that effort, I have no doubt that we will progress,” the coach further stated.Kenya football U20 football team posing for a Team Photo.Photo/TIMOTHY OLOBULUThe Emerging Stars will need either a high scoring draw or an outright win to qualify with the Rwandese having complicated matters with a late away goal in Machakos three weeks ago.“Rwanda is a very tough team but we have done our homework right. We know what to do to win and playing in an artificial turf will be comfortable for us because we have trained well on the same surface,” the coach further added.Kenya will be trying its luck to get past the first round of qualification with the last effort in 2016 ending in the first round after disqualification having fielded five players who exceeded the requisite age by a few months. It was later found out to have been an administrative issue and Kenya survived a ban. They had held Sudan to a 1-1 draw away and were looking to finish the job in Nairobi only for the Sudanese to file a successful appeal.Traveling TeamGoalkeepers; Humphrey Katasi (Nzoia Sugar), Bryan Bwire (Kariobangi Sharks)Defenders; Yusuf Mainge (AFC Leopards), Moses Mudavadi (St Anthony Kitale), Ezekiel Nyati (KCB), Boniface Onyango (Kakamega High), Brian Wepo (AcaKoro), Thomas Teka (Nzoia Sugar).Midfielders; Ndemi Keegan (Bandari FC), Erick Kipkirui (Kariobangi Sharks), Richard Odada (Unattached), Alpha Onyango (Gor Mahia), Fidel Origa (Kariobangi Sharks), Vincent Wasambo (Kariobangi Sharks), Patrick Otieno (Nzoia Sugar).Forwards; Sydney Lokale (Kariobangi Sharks), John Mwangi (Mathare United FC), Abraham Dawo (Police FC), Ovella Ochieng (Kariobangi Sharks), Austin Ochieng (Kayole Youth).0Shares0000(Visited 3 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

18 KILLYBEGS BOATS BANNED FROM HERRING FISHERY BY MINISTER – MOONEY

first_imgSenator Paschal Mooney has called on the Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney TD to allow the fishing fleet out of Killybegs to fish for herring in the Celtic Sea.The Leitrim Senator questioned Minister Coveney at a meeting of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries today (Thursday, 19 July) about why his new policy excluded 18 out of 22 pelagic fishing boats in Donegal from the largest herring pelagic fishery in the Celtic Sea.Senator Mooney explained: “As a result of new criteria set down by Minister Coveney for herring fishing opportunities in the Celtic Sea, the Donegal fishing fleet has been denied access. “The criteria are based on providing access to those with a recent track record in herring fishing.  The quota wasn’t fished in ‘track record’ period by vessels the affected as the quota was too low.“This has had a serious impact on the local economy. As a result of the fleet being denied access to the Celtic Sea herring stock, 200 to 300 workers employed in fish processing facilities in South West Donegal will lose several weeks work as no herring is being processed.” 18 KILLYBEGS BOATS BANNED FROM HERRING FISHERY BY MINISTER – MOONEY was last modified: July 20th, 2012 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:18 KILLYBEGS BOATS BANNED FROM HERRING FISHERY BY MINISTER – MOONEYlast_img read more

YouTube’s iOS Livestreaming Feature Is A Win For Cord Cutters

first_img9 Books That Make Perfect Gifts for Industry Ex… Related Posts john paul titlow Watching Coachella from your phone just got easier. At long last, iOS users can tap into YouTube’s live video streams, thanks to an update pushed out to the app yesterday. It may seem like a minor thing, but the addition of livestreaming support to YouTube for iOS is a pretty nice touch, especially if you’re getting your “TV” content from your tablet or smartphone. This is a win for cord cutters. As somebody who relies exclusively on Internet streaming boxes and mobile devices to fill their 48″ HDTV screen with moving pictures, I’ve long wished YouTube’s native app would give me access to the live-streamed stuff. In recent years, YouTube has been making live video feeds available for whatever major political and entertainment events they can get the rights to stream. This includes music festivals like Coachella, sporting events and just about every major televised event in the course of each presidential election. You know, exactly the kind of thing for which we tune into live TV.Internet TV User Experience: It’s Getting There…The problem with relying on the Internet for TV content is that the user experience is unpolished. As exciting as all this new TV tech might seem, there’s still something to be said for sitting in front of a television set, pressing a button and leaning back. You can’t really do that with Internet TV, but the experience is getting there. Part of the equation is smart app design such as that found in iPad video apps like Frequency, ShowYou and Vodio.  YouTube’s own four-month-old iPad app is the best the service has ever looked on Apple’s market-leading tablet (it’s naturally quite at home on Android as well).  Still, while a great mobile app UI is important, it’s useless without the means to get it to the TV, which is where technologies like Apple’s AirPlay come in. And of course, the most crucial part of all is the content itself. This update stands to make YouTube a much better source of that content. Meanwhile, if Aereo survives the TV industry’s litigious onslaught, it will be, if you’ll pardon the buzzword, a total game-changer for this type of TV-viewing experience. YouTube’s Role In TV’s FutureOn the content front, YouTube has been ramping up its original, TV-style content for awhile now, even opening its own TV studio in Los Angeles. Like Hulu and Netflix, YouTube knows that people are going to be turning to the Internet for more and more  of their TV-viewing, and they want to stake out as big of a slice of that pie as possible. But while binging on Arrested Development on Netflix is great and all, certain shows and events are best enjoyed live. Trying to tune into those things via tablets and streaming boxes is a pretty clunky experience. As the interfaces mature and content selection widens, it’s going to get better. YouTube is one of players that will be right at the heart of this evolution, which will lead to the future of what we now think of as “TV.” Adding live streaming support inches us toward that future just enough that it’s worth noting. This is not a blockbuster, life-altering feature for cord cutters – It’s not like HBO just gave us all HBO Go access for free out of the kindness of their hearts – but it’s an important step toward making mobile devices more suitable sources of television-style content. Combined with apps like Aereo and Hulu Plus, YouTube makes “TV” something that increasingly comes from the Internet, not from cable providers.  5 Outdoor Activities for Beating Office Burnoutcenter_img 12 Unique Gifts for the Hard-to-Shop-for People… 4 Keys to a Kid-Safe App Tags:#airplay#Internet TV#mobile#YouTube last_img read more

Victolero keeps faith in Lee despite missing potential game winner

first_imgThe Hotshots had their eight-game winning streak snapped but Victolero maintains a positive outlook going into Game 3 on Wednesday.“Actually, they don’t have that much of an adjustment. The difference today was San Miguel started very strong, so we need to adjust on how we start the game,” he said.“I think we had a good second half, did what we needed to correct from the first half. It boils down to what kind of game we wanted to play, which is a defensive game, but we just fell short in the end when it comes to execution and a little luck. first_imgWijnaldum urges Liverpool not to dwell on Man City setbackby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum says they shouldn’t dwell on defeat at Manchester City on Thursday night. The result sees City cut Liverpool’s lead to four points.Wijnaldum said, “I think it was a good game. We didn’t start well. City were the better team first half but we still created chances and were unlucky. Second half we played better and created more chances and scored. We were unlucky with other chances not going in. One moment we didn’t defend well and they scored.”We are two teams trying to force the other team to make a mistake. Both teams lost the ball. It was a game in which everything could happen. In the end we lost and are disappointed. But we also need to keep our confidence.”I don’t want to say it is a hammer blow. You are always disappointed to lose a game, especially when you come back and create chances. We will be happy if we had a draw. first_imgBournemouth striker Josh King: Time to find consistencyby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveBournemouth striker Josh King says they need to find consistency.King has featured in all four games as the Cherries have taken four points from their first four games – a tally matched in their first two seasons in the top flight. The 27-year-old frontman netted from the spot to pave the way for the 2-1 win at Aston Villa and was also involved in the 1-1 draw with Sheffield United on the opening day.Asked for his opinion on their start, King told afcb.co.uk: “It’s been a very mixed bag. I thought we let ourselves down against Sheffield United. We should have beaten them but didn’t perform at our highest level.“We played a high-performance and energetic game against Aston Villa and won.“I thought we put in a good performance against Manchester City and them and Liverpool are the two best teams in the league.“I didn’t think anyone played well against Leicester and we all knew it. It’s in the back of everyone’s mind that it was a bad performance and we want to make it right against Everton.“They have made a few new signings and have a good team. Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi are two good acquisitions and Richarlison is playing well and scoring goals.“Every time we play Everton, it’s a good game to watch. We’re both attacking and both box to box which is probably why they have put it on television on Sunday.“We haven’t performed how we should have in the first four games and maybe the international break came at a good time because we can regroup and focus on Sunday because we need three points.” About the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more
