Canadas Parks Day in Nova Scotia

first_imgNova Scotians are encouraged to visit a park Saturday, July 21, to take part in Canada’s Parks Day events. Many provincial parks, along with hundreds of parks and historic sites across the country, are hosting events to celebrate the value and benefits of parks. “Canada’s Parks Day is a good time to celebrate all that our provincial parks have to offer those who enjoy nature and healthy, outdoor activities,” said Charlie Parker Minister of Natural Resources. “And we remind park users there is still an opportunity to comment on our parks system through the online survey on the Nova Scotia park’s website.” Family fun day events, geo-caching, interpretive walks, and public talks about nature and many more activities, can be enjoyed at over 15 provincial parks and in the new Kelly River and Raven Head Wilderness Area, in the Chignecto region. Parks day is also a time to commemorate significant anniversaries in the parks system. Amherst Shore Provincial Park and Mira River Provincial Park are both marking 45 years of operations and Dollar Lake Provincial Park is marking its 30th anniversary. This year at Dollar Lake Park canoe paddling programs and other family activities will be offered. Mira River Park will have a variety of educational and entertainment activities. Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park, near Yarmouth, will offer the Amazing Race Nature Event and geocaching. Canada’s Parks Day events are arranged by government agencies, recreation organizations, community groups and other dedicated volunteers.
